1. Apply for an Accredited Cosmetology School

When you’re looking for a cosmetology school that fits with your goals as well as your values, it’s important to look for schools that are nationally accredited. The National Accrediting Commission of Career Arts And Sciences (NACCAS) is a great resource for those who are looking for valuable and trustworthy schools.

You’ll also have to apply and be accepted into the school of your choice. Each process might look different for each school. At Summit Salon Academy Perrysburg, we try to make the process straightforward and easy to navigate with assistance just a phone call away! Here are some of the things you’ll need to apply to your program:

  • Enrollment application
  • High school diploma or GED

  • Copy of a driver’s license, passport, or social security card
  • Signed enrollment agreement
  • Registration fee

2. Complete Your Required Training Hours

While in school, you’ll be required to complete a certain number of hours to sit for your state boards. Our Advanced Cosmetology Program is 1800 hours and can take as little as 53 weeks to complete. While you’re in school, you can learn more about the world of hair, skin, and nails!

Completing your required hours will help ensure that you’ve prepared for the state boards!

3. Sit for the Ohio State Boards

To be able to become licensed in the state of Ohio, you’ll need to put your knowledge to the test! After you’ve completed your schooling, you’ll need to sit for an exam that can help show that you know the materials. In 2018, Summit Salon Academy had a 100% student licensure rate of those that sat for the exam.

You can learn more about what types of questions will be asked on the Ohio State Cosmetology and Barber Board website.

4. Complete Continuing Education To Maintain Your License

If you pass your state boards then you’re ready to find a place to start working! We hope that you love your new journey and passion in the cosmetology industry, no matter where that path takes you.

To make sure that you stay knowledgeable and up-to-date with current industry trends and information, you will be required to complete continuing education hours to maintain your license in the state of Ohio.
